Activate

ACTT’s talented youth actor training program, ACTIVATE, has been offered twice annually since 1992 for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 years. ACTIVATE has launched the careers of many graduates including Leeanna Walsman, Beejan Olfat, Anita Hegh, Steven Hopley and Andrew Threlfall.

It is the leading youth acting program available in Sydney and is designed for those seriously interested in training from the industry’s finest tutors. ACTIVATE students undertake an innovative curriculum especially designed to develop performance skills in acting, voice and movement that support the student’s creative pursuits and acting ability. Teachers on the program are the same tutors who teach the higher level acting courses at ACTT and are dedicated to helping young people fully realise their talent.

The course is divided into four stages and the end of each stage marks a new phase in the training. Two intensive workshops are included during the year in school holidays to introduce screen acting, singing and stage combat. A mid year performance is devised by the students and teachers to celebrate the skills developed. The end of year performance is a polished production of scenes and ensemble work to family, friends and invited industry guests.

Through ACTIVATE, students develop skills that prepare them for a career in acting and improving their results in high school drama. It is well known that studying acting has enormously positive benefits in the areas of confidence, general school studies, maturity and communication abilities as well as raising self esteem. The course is an immensely rewarding and enjoyable experience and lifetime friends are made.

“Anita studied drama when she was younger (in ACTIVATE) to overcome shyness. She originally set out to be a teacher, but after auditioning for NIDA and being accepted she changed her career path. Anita graduated from NIDA in 1994 and has rarely been out of work since.”
